Donald Lawrence
Donald Lawrence "Law of Confession Part 1” (Quiet Water/Zomba) "The Law of Confession, Part 1,” Grammy-winning producer, composer and recording artist Donald Lawrence’s sophomore compact disc, is his first solo set since 2004. Lawrence is best known for reshaping the Tri-City Singers in the 1990s and collaborating with well-known artists such as Mary J. Blige, Ramsey Lewis, The Clark Sisters and Hezekiah Walker. Backed by The Co., an ensemble with more than 10 members, Lawrence creates an inviting atmosphere for his listeners and cites the inspiration for his album as "The Law of Confession,” a book by Bill Winston. From the old school, traditional style of "Citizens of the Kingdom” to the upbeat, funky anthem "Back to Eden,” Lawrence has something for everyone. "This is pushing people to get back to our original design,” Lawrence says regarding "Back to Eden.” "I’m ... saying, ‘What are you waiting for? Let’s get back to Eden and live on top of the world.’” Themes of empowerment and self-affirmation can be heard in the warm and fuzzy "Happy Being Me” as well as the high-energy single "Let the Word Do the Work (One Word Away),” featuring Brother Hahz, an up-and-coming rapper from Brooklyn, N.Y. "The Law of Confession, Part 1” is poised to become one of Lawrence’s most memorable projects and is a source of inspiration during these trying times.
